Our long standing International Faculty Member, Eleanor A. Greenlee has sadly passed away on January 13, 2022. 
She will be very, very much missed by me and many others who were fortunate enough to know her and her work. Her enthusiasm and dedication to Bioenergetics for five decades affected and inspired people all over the globe. She was one of the finest ambassadors we’ve ever had, full of knowledge, expertise and heart. Obituary by Michael Conant (Bioenergetic Society of Northern California)

In ricordo di Eleanor Greenlee

E’ un onore per me ricordare Eleanor Greenlee, scomparsa giovedì 13 gennaio. Eleanor è stata mia insegnante nel training di formazione in analisi bioenergetica della Siab, nella prima metà degli anni Ottanta. Ero una ragazza di 26 anni e lei una quarantenne quando ci siamo conosciute. Eleanor apparteneva alla prima generazione di formatori che hanno diffuso l’analisi bioenergetica al di fuori degli USA, come international trainer dell’International Institute for Bioenergetic Analysis (IIBA). In seguito, aveva ricevuto il titolo di “trainer emerita”.
Eleanor era l’unica donna del team americano assegnato alla nostra scuola di formazione, una delle prime scuole in Europa. Il suo stile mi ha subito affascinato, e con le sue parole lo definirei caratterizzato dalla “capacità di seguire il flusso, l’esperienza”. Mi colpiva la sua presenza, ovvero il suo modo di incarnare la capacità di leggere il linguaggio corporeo senza cadere nell’oggettivazione, mantenendo il contatto con la persona. Eleanor dimostrava, infatti, una maestria particolare nel padroneggiare un fattore determinante del lavoro terapeutico, un fattore relazionale che lei stessa amava definire come “il segreto del contatto”, ovvero, la capacità di arrivare al cuore, attraverso il rispetto dell’identità altrui e della propria, nella fondamentale dialettica tra contatto e confine.
Ricordo una volta che eravamo a pranzo insieme, durante un suo soggiorno a Roma, negli anni successivi al mio training. Nella conversazione venne fuori l’argomento delle nostre origini e scoprimmo di avere entrambe sangue siciliano, infatti, sua madre era di origini polacche ma il nonno paterno era emigrato dalla Sicilia negli USA. Sia il nonno che il padre erano stati molto affettuosi e di sostegno per lei. Eleanor era vissuta in molte parti degli USA: in Pennsylvania, a New York, in California. Faceva parte della Società bioenergetica della California del nord. Era andata a vivere a Walnut Creeek, una graziosa cittadina nell’entroterra rispetto alla città universitaria di Berkeley, nella parte occidentale della San Francisco Bay Area.
Eleanor era di media statura, slanciata e insieme solida, vivace e al contempo rassicurante. Si muoveva con grazia e scioltezza. Aveva una bella voce chiara e nitida, Anche per queste caratteristiche l’ho considerata, come dicevo, un modello da seguire altresì rispetto al compito di integrare la dualità centrale nella psicoterapia bioenergetica: capacità di osservare i corpi e capacità di sintonizzarsi con le persone. In questo senso, Eleanor continua a incarnare per me il grounding del terapeuta e del trainer in analisi bioenergetica. Non dimenticherò mai il suo sorriso e i suoi occhi luminosi.
