Iniziamo con un’intervista a Eleonor Greenlee, la grande analista e didatta dell’Iiba, l’International Institute for Bioenergetic Analysis fondato da Alexander Lowen nel 1956. L’intervista dà un ritratto prezioso del “periodo d’oro” della bioenergetica in California e parla anche del rapporto dell’intervistata con Alexander Lowen (“aveva una personalità difficile”). “Sentirsi ed essere presente” era l’obiettivo principale di Eleanor Greenlee, e chiunque di noi abbia avuto la fortuna di incontrarla come insegnante ricorda e conserva quel dono della sua presenza.
Il trauma rappresenta sicuramente un blocco incisivo delle connessioni vitali. Patrizia Moselli, la Presidente della nostra Società e International Trainer IIBA, indaga nel suo articolo I segreti del corpo. Disvelare le emozioni nascoste soprattutto sui cosiddetti “traumi di sviluppo”. È un tipo di trauma che solitamente ha origine nell’ambito familiare, nella sfera delle relazioni di attaccamento; sono “eventi di traumatizzazione cronica” che plasmano poi a livello inconscio la personalità. La formula “il corpo è sintomatico” esprime bene questa tendenza, “in quanto ci riporta costantemente nella riattualizzazione del vissuto traumatico, rimasto bloccato, inconsapevole, nel tentativo di risolverlo”. L’autrice esplora poi le possibilità terapeutiche fornite dall’approccio bioenergetico per affrontare le fratture traumatiche e per riattivare “il movimento innato di integrazione, guarigione e benessere”, in cui vede, con Alexander Lowen, “l’obiettivo centrale della psicoterapia”. L’articolo è un estratto dell’intervento di Patrizia Moselli all’interno di un ciclo di lezioni sul trauma.
Conosciamo Garry Cockborn, Ex-Presidente Iiba che vive e lavora in Nuova Zelanda, per i suoi articoli sostanziosi che nel corso degli anni abbiamo tradotto e pubblicato su vari numeri della rivista. Anche questo suo contributo, La dinamica corporea degli stati primitivi, si distingue per la profondità del pensiero; è un invito ai colleghi interessati a sviluppare strumenti concettuali adatti ad affrontare gli stati mentali cosiddetti primitivi come psicosi, autismo psicotico e gravi forme borderline, col focus sul ruolo del corpo in questa tipologia di disturbi. L’autore ricorda perciò più volte il titolo originale dell’opera-base di Lowen, The Physical Dynamics of Character Structure, che concepisce come modello di una psicologia basata principalmente sulla dinamica corporea dei fenomeni psichici. Cockburn nel suo articolo teorizza l’applicazione di tale prospettiva loweniana anche allo studio degli stati primitivi, caratterizzati proprio dall’assenza di un solido “terreno sensoriale somatico”, dall’assenza di un Sé corporeo. Si tratta ovviamente di una tematica che si manifesta anche nei nostri pazienti “normali”, tanto che le riflessioni dell’autore riguardano la prassi quotidiana di tutti noi.
Il contributo seguente, Memoir di una psicoterapia di Scott Baum, sembra redatta proprio come illustrazione concreta del nostro discorso. In questo memoir Scott Baum, anch’egli ex Presidente Iiba e analista di rilievo a New York, descrive la sua terapia personale con due terapeuti durata 50 anni, trenta dei quali con il noto psicoanalista Michael Eigen. Tale durata già di per sé fa intuire la misura della ferita dell’autore (“vivevo come un morto vivente”), l’enorme senso di vuoto interiore, la “frammentazione di mente e spirito” che si manifesta ugualmente come frammentazione del corpo. L’autore sembra dirci nel suo articolo che anche in questo caso, la presenza del terapeuta, intesa non per ultimo come “testimonianza”, sia stato il segreto fattore curativo di una persona seriamente offesa.
Se il contributo di Scott Baum descrive il lato soggettivo, biografico di un’esperienza genuinamente personale, ci imbattiamo in tutt’altra atmosfera nell’articolo di Guy Tonella, Il modello ESMER. Capire la complessità del Sé. Si tratta di un tentativo sistematico di comprendere il Sé nei suoi cinque livelli fondamentali di organizzazione: la funzione energetica, sensoriale, muscolare, emotiva e rappresentativa; cinque funzioni di base accomunate, appunto, nella sigla ESMER. Di particolare importanza sono in questo contesto le connessioni vitali tra queste cinque funzioni; spetta perciò al lavoro terapeutico “costruire i ponti tra gli estremi”.
La creatività umana è un tema che da sempre ha affascinato il fondatore dell’analisi bioenergetica, tanto da dedicarle un intero libro: Il piacere. Un approccio creativo alla vita (1970). Nel suo contributo: Il processo creativo loweniano, l’Io, il grounding, Livia Geloso ci propone un’esplorazione approfondita dei contenuti di questo testo. Ma l’articolo contiene molto di più, in quanto inquadra il pensiero di Lowen nella cultura anglo-americana del suo tempo, segnata già dalla fine dell’Ottocento da numerosi scambi culturali tra le due sponde dell’Atlantico. Citiamo qui solo il cosiddetto “movimento di riscoperta del corpo”, una di quelle tendenze dell’epoca che diverrà poi decisiva per la nascita della psicoterapia corporea. In questo senso e in fedeltà all’argomento trattato, l’articolo si distingue per una sintesi ampia, originale, altamente creativa.

Nelle sue Considerazioni sul rapporto tra Io e corpo, Christoph Helferich esamina questo assunto di base del pensiero di Alexander Lowen e le tante ragioni per cui la nostra cultura lo contraddice. Siamo infatti piuttosto abituati a identificare il nostro Io con la memoria personale e in generale con i processi linguistico-mentali del cervello, “I am My Mind”. Ricorrendo al concetto della persona come “organismo vivente” e la cosiddetta embodied cognitive science, l’autore sviluppa una serie di considerazioni valide a sostegno dell’assunto originario di Lowen. Un breve caso clinico illustra questa tesi.
Nel suo secondo contributo, Christoph Helferich esamina il racconto La morte di Ivàn Il’íč di Lev Tolstòj, racconto splendido e di particolare intensità esistenziale. L’analisi si sofferma su tre punti focali: la questione dell’autenticità personale, la narrazione di sé come fonte della nostra identità, e l’importanza del contatto fisico come ponte tra le persone. La nota clinica finale evidenzia alcuni nodi critici con cui il racconto ci confronta, sia a livello personale che professionale.
Il nostro numero si conclude con tre recensioni attuali. Luisa Laurelli presenta il volume Tre caratteri del famoso psicoanalista Christopher Bollas (trad. it. Raffaello Cortina Editore, Milano 2021). Come scrive nell’introduzione all’opera, per Bollas “ciascun disturbo costituisce un tentativo intelligente di trovare una soluzione a un problema esistenziale”. Ciò vale in particolare per i tre caratteri in questione: il Narcisista, il Borderline e il carattere Maniaco-Depressivo. La recensione fa intuire la profondità dell’indagine di Bollas, evidenziando non per ultimo la “particolare attenzione della psicoanalisi verso il corpo reale” che riscontriamo nel libro di Bollas.
Segue l’articolo Nella gabbia della vendetta, una recensione di Sara Montozzi al film di Tom Ford, Animali notturni (2016). Argomento centrale di questo film, che tra l’altro ha ricevuto numerosi riconoscimenti internazionali, è la vendetta e più precisamente la cosiddetta “vendicatività patologica”, a differenza dalla vendetta come risposta normale se si subisce un torto o un’ingiustizia. Interessante notare che la tipologia più incline alla vendicatività patologica sono le personalità narcisistiche e paranoidee, data la maggiore vulnerabilità del loro senso dell’identità e della loro sicurezza psicologica. La recensione si conclude con una preziosa riflessione sul perdono, difficile alternativa alla vendetta.
Concludiamo il numero con l’Introduzione di Rosaria Filoni a un volume collettivo da lei curato, Bioenergetica & genere, amore, sesso, relazioni, un’edizione originale dell’International Institute for Bioenergetic Analysis. Con questo libro la curatrice ci ha dato un contributo importante – direi anzi assolutamente necessario – all’attuale dibattito sulle questioni di genere. Tale contributo da parte dell’analisi bioenergetica mancava da tempo; il volume colma questa lacuna raccogliendo ben dieci saggi di autrici bioenergetiche rappresentative, operanti tra gli Stati Uniti e l’Europa. Verso la fine del suo testo troviamo la costatazione che “accanto a tutti gli aspetti deteriori, viviamo in tempi in cui in alcune aree del mondo […] è possibile manifestare una soggettività più libera e maggiori possibilità di autodeterminazione”. È un’affermazione importante, visto che la sessualità, con le parole di Alexander Lowen, “non è uno svago o un’attività temporanea, ma un modo di vivere”, a way of being.
