Alexander Lowen (1910-2008), a partire dalle fondamenta poste dal suo mentore Wilhelm Reich (1897-1957), creò i principi dell’Analisi Bioenergetica e sviluppò ulteriormente i suoi tipi di strutture caratteriali. Insegnò così il suo approccio e scrisse a proposito della sua devozione alla Bioenergetica nel suo libro The Language of the Body and Bioenergetics.
Lowen non fu solamente un forte sostenitore del principio dell’identità funzionale di Reich, ma anche un acuto osservatore dei suoi pazienti, con uno speciale talento per la lettura del corpo. Sviluppò una classificazione che definì i 5 tipi caratteriali: lo schizoide, l’orale, lo psicopatico, il masochista ed il rigido.
Lowen comprese il carattere, non solo inteso come disturbo di personalità, ma anche come struttura che descrive la storia evolutiva difensiva dell’individuo, studiato nelle sue funzioni psichiche, corporee ed energetiche. Dunque, il linguaggio corporeo rappresenta l’espressione evolutiva dell’individuo e in un certo senso la sua lotta per la sopravvivenza. Il carattere esprime la funzione vitale dell’individuo, ma anche il modo in cui la sua mente “mente”.

Liane Zink è Analista Reichiana, Trainer internazionale Bioenergetico, è Direttore del São Paulo’s Institute per l’Analisi Bioenergetica.
